A close-up of a layered dessert on a white plate shows a bottom layer of light yellow sponge cake with a soft, crumbly texture. On top is a thick, smooth layer of light brown chocolate cream covering the cake unevenly and topped with dark brown chocolate crumbs sprinkled across the surface. A silver spoon digs into the dessert on the right edge of the plate. Next to the plate is the edge of a large nutella jar with a white label and big red letters. The background is a soft blue wall, and the plate rests on a white marbled surface. Photo taken with an iphone --ar 4:5 --v 7

Ingredients

  • 3 cups cold heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 16 ounces mascarpone
  • 2 (13-ounce) containers store-bought Nutella
  • 48 ladyfingers
  • 3 cups cold espresso or strongly brewed coffee
  • 2 tablespoons Frangelico
  • 2 tablespoons espresso powder

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In the large bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment (or using a large bowl and handheld mixer), beat the cold heavy cream and kosher salt on medium speed until soft peaks form. Be careful not to whip to stiff peaks.
  2. Step 2: In a separate large bowl, mix together the mascarpone and Nutella until smooth. Gently fold about one-third of the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture to lighten it. Then fold the mascarpone mixture into the remaining whipped cream until fully combined.
  3. Step 3: In a shallow dish or long container large enough for ladyfingers, combine the cold espresso and Frangelico. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture for about 1 second, making sure not to soak them.
  4. Step 4: Arrange the dipped ladyfingers in two rows of 12 vertically in the bottom of a 13″ x 9″ pan. Spread half of the Nutella cream mixture evenly over the ladyfingers.
  5. Step 5: Repeat the process with the remaining dipped ladyfingers and cream mixture, layering the dessert.
  6. Step 6: Refrigerate the nutellamisu for at least 3 hours or overnight to allow it to set and flavors to meld.
  7. Step 7: Before serving, dust the top evenly with espresso powder for a finishing touch.

Tips & Variations

  • Use freshly brewed espresso for the richest flavor, or substitute with strong brewed coffee for a milder taste.
  • For a nut-free version, replace Frangelico with a coffee liqueur or omit it entirely.
  • Allow the dessert to chill overnight for the best texture and flavor development.
  • Add a sprinkle of chopped hazelnuts between layers for added crunch and nuttiness.

Storage

Store leftover nutellamisu covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. It is best enjoyed within this time for optimal texture and flavor. When ready to serve, take it out of the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes for a creamier texture. Do not freeze, as the texture may be compromised.

Scale

Cream Mixture

  • 3 cups cold heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 16 ounces mascarpone cheese
  • 2 (13-ounce) containers Nutella

Assembly

  • 48 ladyfingers
  • 3 cups cold espresso or strongly brewed coffee
  • 2 tablespoons Frangelico
  • 2 tablespoons espresso powder (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Whip the Cream: In the large bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, or using a large bowl and handheld mixer, beat the cold heavy cream with kosher salt on medium speed until soft peaks form. Avoid whipping to stiff peaks to maintain a light, airy texture.
  2. Prepare the Nutella-Mascarpone Mixture: In a separate large bowl, combine the mascarpone cheese and Nutella until smooth. Gently fold about one-third of the whipped cream into this mixture to lighten it, then fold the mascarpone mixture back into the remaining whipped cream, combining thoroughly but gently to keep the mixture fluffy.
  3. Soak the Ladyfingers: In a shallow dish or long container large enough to fit the ladyfingers, mix the cold espresso with Frangelico. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into this coffee mixture for about 1 second — just enough to soak without making them soggy.
  4. Assemble the Tiramisu: Arrange the dipped ladyfingers in two rows of twelve vertically at the bottom of a 13″ x 9″ pan. Evenly spread half of the Nutella mascarpone cream over the cookies. Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and then the remaining cream mixture.
  5. Chill the Dessert: Refrigerate the assembled tiramisu for at least 3 hours to allow it to set fully, or ideally overnight for maximum flavor melding and texture.
  6. Finish and Serve: Just before serving, dust the top generously with espresso powder to enhance the coffee flavor and add a beautiful finish.

Notes

  • Use cold ingredients to help the cream whip better and maintain stability.
  • If Frangelico is unavailable, substitute with another hazelnut liqueur or omit for a non-alcoholic version.
  • Dip ladyfingers quickly to prevent them from becoming too soggy and compromising the tiramisu texture.
  • This dessert tastes best after chilling overnight but can be served after 3 hours if short on time.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator and consume within 2-3 days for best freshness.
