Scale

Salad Ingredients

  • 1 lb. fresh mozzarella
  • 4 large or 6 medium ripe tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 bunch fresh basil, stems removed and discarded
  • Extra-virgin olive oil, for drizzling
  • Flaky sea salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare ingredients: Slice the fresh mozzarella into even pieces and slice the ripe tomatoes into similar-sized rounds. Remove the stems from the bunch of basil and discard them, leaving whole basil leaves for layering.
  2. Arrange on plate: On a large serving plate or platter, layer the mozzarella and tomato slices in an alternating pattern, creating a visually appealing presentation.
  3. Add basil leaves: Scatter the fresh basil leaves evenly over the layered mozzarella and tomato slices, distributing them to add both flavor and brightness.
  4. Season and drizzle: Drizzle extra-virgin olive oil generously over the assembled salad. Finish by seasoning with flaky sea salt and freshly ground black pepper according to taste.

Notes

  • Use high-quality fresh mozzarella and ripe tomatoes for the best flavor.
  • For a twist, drizzle balsamic glaze instead of or in addition to olive oil.
  • This salad is best served immediately to enjoy the freshness of the ingredients.
  • Can be served as an appetizer, side dish, or light lunch.
  • Optionally, add freshly cracked black pepper to taste just before serving.
