Ingredients

Scale

Sausage Gravy:

  • 1 pound ground pork sausage
  • 4 ½ cups milk
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 3 Tablespoons butter
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Biscuit Topping:

  • 2 7.5 ounce cans refrigerator biscuits or homemade drop biscuit dough

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and spray a 13 x 9 inch glass pan with oil cooking spray.
  2. Brown Sausage: In a medium-sized pot, brown the sausage. Transfer sausage to the prepared baking dish and blot out excess grease.
  3. Make Roux: In the same pot, add butter to the sausage drippings and melt over medium heat. Add flour, salt, and peppers to create a roux. Cook until it begins to brown.
  4. Prepare Gravy: Gradually add milk to the roux, whisking until smooth. Cook on medium-low heat, stirring often until thickened. Pour the gravy over the sausage in the baking pan.
  5. Top with Biscuits: Cut refrigerator biscuits into quarters or use homemade biscuit dough divided into small portions. Place biscuit pieces on top of the gravy.
  6. Bake: Bake for 25-30 minutes until biscuits are golden brown.
  7. Serve: Serve the Biscuits and Gravy Casserole warm and enjoy!
