Ingredients

Scale

For the Cinnamon Butter Spread

  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter, softened
  • 5 tablespoons Light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Ground cinnamon

For the Coating and Egg Mixture

  • 3 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1/4 cup Milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted butter (for frying)

For the Bread

  • 8 slices White sandwich bread

To Serve

  • Maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cinnamon Butter Mixture: Separate 2 tablespoons of butter and set aside for frying. In a medium bowl, combine the remaining 6 tablespoons of softened butter with 5 tablespoons of light brown sugar and 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon. Stir until fully incorporated and set aside.
  2. Mix Cinnamon Sugar Coating: In a small bowl, mix 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Set this mixture aside for coating the roll ups later.
  3. Make Egg Wash: In a separate medium dish, whisk together 2 eggs, 1/4 cup milk, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and well-combined.
  4. Prepare the Bread: Remove the crusts from each slice of bread. Using a rolling pin, flatten each slice to make it easier to roll. Spread a thin, even layer of the cinnamon butter mixture onto each slice, then roll the bread tightly into a log shape.
  5. Dip and Fry: Melt 1 tablespoon of the reserved butter in a nonstick frying pan over medium heat. Dip each bread roll into the egg mixture, ensuring it is well-coated. Place each roll seam-side down in the pan. Fry the rolls until golden brown on all sides, about 2 minutes per side. Add additional butter to the pan as needed during cooking to prevent sticking and enhance browning.
  6. Coat and Serve: Once cooked, immediately roll each French toast roll up in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat evenly. Serve warm with maple syrup on the side for dipping or drizzling.
