Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp and Seasoning

  • 1 lb raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp cumin
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil

Sauce

  • ⅓ cup sour cream
  • ⅓ cup mayonnaise
  • 1½ Tbsp lime juice
  • ¾ tsp garlic powder
  • ¾ tsp Sriracha

Toppings

  • 8 corn tortillas
  • ½ small purple cabbage, shredded
  • 1 avocado, diced
  • ½ red onion, diced
  • 4 oz Cotija cheese, crumbled
  • ¼ bunch cilantro, chopped
  • 1 lime, cut into wedges

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce: In a bowl, whisk together the sour cream, mayonnaise, lime juice, garlic powder, and Sriracha until smooth and well combined. Set the sauce aside to let the flavors meld.
  2. Prep the toppings: Shred the purple cabbage, dice the avocado and red onion, crumble the Cotija cheese, and chop the cilantro. Arrange all toppings for easy assembly.
  3. Season the shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels. In a bowl, toss the shrimp with minced garlic, sea salt, black pepper, cumin, and cayenne until evenly coated.
  4. Cook the shrimp: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned shrimp and sauté for 1–2 minutes per side until they turn pink, opaque, and are cooked through. Remove from heat.
  5. Toast the tortillas: Warm the corn tortillas by toasting them briefly over an open flame or in a dry skillet until they are golden and pliable.
  6. Assemble the tacos: Place some shrimp on each tortilla, then top with shredded cabbage, diced avocado, red onion, cilantro, and crumbled Cotija cheese. Drizzle with the prepared sauce and serve immediately with lime wedges for squeezing over the tacos.

Notes

  • To save time, you can prepare the sauce and toppings in advance.
  • Adjust the cayenne and Sriracha amounts based on your preferred spice level.
  • For a gluten-free version, verify that the corn tortillas are certified gluten-free.
  • Grilling the shrimp instead of sautéing can add a smoky flavor.
  • Leftover shrimp taco filling can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
