Ingredients

Scale

Cookies and Coating

  • 24 Nutter Butter Cookies
  • 12 oz yellow melting chocolate disks

Decorations

  • 48 candy eyes
  • 48 orange M&M’s (standard size)
  • 24 orange mini M&M’s

Instructions

  1. Melt the Chocolate: Place the yellow melting chocolate disks in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at 50% power for 30 seconds, then stir. Repeat in 15-second intervals as needed until the chocolate is smooth and suitable for dipping.
  2. Dip the Cookies: Using two forks, dip each Nutter Butter cookie into the melted chocolate, fully coating it. Gently tap off any excess chocolate on the side of the bowl to prevent drips and place the coated cookie on a lined baking sheet. Work in batches of about 12 cookies at a time to ensure the chocolate stays melted and smooth.
  3. Add the Eyes and Beak: Immediately after dipping, press two candy eyes onto the top half of the cookie. Then, place one orange mini M&M standing upright between the eyes to serve as the chick’s beak. The eyes help to hold the beak in place while the chocolate hardens.
  4. Add the Feet: Attach two regular-sized orange M&M’s at the base of each cookie to create the chick’s feet. Make sure the chocolate covers this area so it acts like glue, securing the candy pieces to the cookie.
  5. Set and Store: Let the decorated cookies set at room temperature for 1 to 2 hours, allowing the chocolate to fully harden. Once set, store the Nutter Butter chicks in an airtight container to maintain freshness.

Notes

  • For best results, use a microwave with adjustable power to avoid burning the chocolate.
  • Working in smaller batches helps keep the chocolate melted and easier to dip.
  • You can substitute candy eyes and M&M colors for seasonal variations or personal preference.
  • If the room is warm, refrigerate the cookies after decorating to speed up setting.
  • These treats are best enjoyed within 3-4 days for optimal freshness.
