Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Layer

  • 1 ½ Tbsp Butter
  • 20 Marshmallows
  • ¼ Cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • 2 Cups Rice Krispies Cereal

Vanilla Layer

  • 1 ½ Tbsp Butter
  • 20 Marshmallows
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 2 Cups Rice Krispies Cereal

Strawberry Layer

  • 1 ½ Tbsp Butter
  • 20 Marshmallows
  • 1 oz Freeze-Dried Strawberries (finely ground)
  • Optional: a few drops of red food coloring
  • 2 Cups Rice Krispies Cereal

Additional

  • Butter or non-stick spray for greasing the pan and hands
  • 8x8 inch square pan lined with parchment paper or greased

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pan: Grease an 8×8 inch square pan with butter or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Make the chocolate layer: In a large saucepan, melt 1 ½ tablespoons of butter and 20 marshmallows over medium-low heat, stirring frequently until fully melted. Add ¼ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips and continue stirring until melted and mixed. Remove from heat, then fold in 2 cups of Rice Krispies cereal until coated. Press this mixture evenly into the prepared pan using buttered hands or a spatula.
  3. Make the vanilla layer: In a clean pan, melt 1 ½ tablespoons butter and 20 marshmallows over medium heat, stirring frequently until melted. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, then fold in 2 cups Rice Krispies cereal. Pour this mixture evenly over the chocolate layer in the pan and press firmly to create an even layer.
  4. Prepare the strawberry powder: Place freeze-dried strawberries in a food processor and grind until very finely ground.
  5. Make the strawberry layer: In another clean pan, melt 1 ½ tablespoons butter and 20 marshmallows over medium heat, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and stir in the ground freeze-dried strawberries. Add a few drops of red food coloring if a deeper color is desired, mixing thoroughly. Fold in the last 2 cups of Rice Krispies cereal. Press this mixture over the vanilla layer evenly and firmly.
  6. Cool and cut: Allow the layered treats to cool completely. If the pan was lined with parchment, lift the treats out onto a cutting board. Cut into 9 squares or smaller pieces as desired.
  7. Store: Keep the treats in an airtight container to maintain freshness.

Notes

  • You can grease your hands with butter or use a spatula to press the cereal mixtures to prevent sticking.
  • Using parchment paper in the pan makes it easier to lift out the treats for cutting.
  • Add red food coloring to the strawberry layer for a more vibrant red color, if desired.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • For a gluten-free version, ensure the Rice Krispies cereal is labeled gluten-free.
