These homemade dog treats are a healthy and delicious way to spoil your furry friend. Perfect for training rewards or everyday snacks, they provide wholesome nutrition and a taste your dog is sure to love.

Ingredients

Scale

Pumpkin & Peanut Butter Treats

  • 1 cup old fashioned oats
  • ½ cup pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • ½ cup peanut butter (ensure no xylitol or artificial sweeteners)
  • 1 egg

Cheddar & Carrot Treats

  • 1 cup old fashioned oats
  • ½ cup pumpkin puree
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ¼ cup carrot (finely grated)
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven. Set your oven to 325°F (163°C) to prepare for baking the treats evenly.
  2. Grind the oats. Place the oats in a food processor or blender and pulse until they reach a coarse flour consistency. This helps bind the dough and improves texture.
  3. Mix the ingredients. For each flavor, combine the ground oats with the remaining ingredients specified. The dough will be slightly wet, which is ideal for molding.
  4. Press into molds. Use oven-safe silicone molds and firmly press the dough mixture into each cavity, shaping the treats to your desired size and thickness.
  5. Bake the treats. Place the molds in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 30 minutes. Baking time depends on the thickness of your treats and how crispy you want them.
  6. Cool and store. Once baked, remove the treats from the molds and allow them to cool completely. Store them in an airtight container to maintain freshness.

Notes

  • Ensure peanut butter does not contain xylitol or any other artificial sweeteners, as these are toxic to dogs.
  • Use pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling, to avoid added sugars and spices.
  • Adjust baking times if you make larger or smaller treats to avoid under or overcooking.
  • These treats can be stored at room temperature for up to one week or refrigerated for longer freshness.
  • Always consult your vet before introducing new foods to your pet’s diet, especially if your dog has allergies or health conditions.
