  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for potatoes)
  • 1 tsp salt (for potatoes)
  • 1 tsp black pepper (for potatoes)
  • 2 tbsp Greek yoghurt
  • 1/2 cucumber, grated and squeezed to remove water
  • 2 tsp garlic, minced (for tzatziki)
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced (for tzatziki)

  2. Step 2: While the chicken marinates, slice the potatoes into 1cm-thick wedges. Toss them with olive oil, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.
  3. Step 3: Place the potato wedges into one compartment of your air fryer (such as a Ninja Foodi) and thread the chicken pieces onto two skewers to place in the other compartment.
  4. Step 4: Set your air fryer to 200°C (390°F) and cook both chicken and potatoes for 16 minutes, turning halfway through to ensure even crisping and cooking.
  5. Step 5: Once cooked, carefully remove the chicken from the skewers and chop into bite-sized pieces ready for assembling your gyros.
  6. Step 6: Prepare the tzatziki by combining Greek yoghurt, grated cucumber (well drained), garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  7. Step 7: Chop the red onion, tomato wedges, and parsley to use as fresh toppings.
  8. Step 8: Lightly toast or warm the flatbread. Spread a layer of tzatziki, then add chicken, fries, tomatoes, red onion, parsley, and more tzatziki on top.
  9. Step 9: Roll up the flatbread to enclose the fillings. Use baking paper if needed to keep the gyros tight. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Tips & Variations

  • For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of smoked paprika or cumin to the chicken marinade.
  • If you don’t have an air fryer, roast the potatoes and bake the chicken in a preheated oven at 200°C (400°F) until cooked through.
  • Use pita bread if flatbread is unavailable; both work well for wrapping the gyros.
  • Add sliced olives or crumbled feta cheese to enrich the gyros with more Greek flavors.

Storage

Store any leftover chicken, fries, and tzatziki separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat the chicken and fries in an oven or air fryer to maintain crispiness. Avoid reheating assembled gyros to prevent sogginess.

FAQs

Can I use chicken breast instead of thighs?

Yes, chicken breast works well but may be less juicy. Marinate it well and avoid overcooking to keep it tender.

How do I prevent the tzatziki from becoming watery?

Grate the cucumber and squeeze out excess water using a clean kitchen towel or paper towels before mixing it into the yoghurt to keep tzatziki thick and creamy.

  2. Prepare the Potato Wedges: Slice the potatoes into 1cm thick wedges. Toss them in olive oil, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated, ensuring crispiness during cooking.
  3. Load the Air Fryer: Place the seasoned potato wedges into one compartment of your Ninja Foodi Air Fryer. Thread the marinated chicken pieces onto two skewers and place them into the other air fryer compartment.
  4. Cook Chicken and Potatoes: Set the Ninja Foodi Air Fryer to 200°C (390°F) and cook everything simultaneously for 16 minutes. Use the MATCH function to synchronize cooking times and ensure both chicken and potatoes finish perfectly together. Turn the chicken and potatoes halfway through cooking for even browning and crispiness.

  9. Assemble the Gyros: Spread a layer of tzatziki over the flatbread, then add the cooked chicken chunks, crispy potato wedges, tomato wedges, sliced red onion, and chopped parsley. Add another dollop of tzatziki on top for extra creaminess.
  10. Roll and Serve: Carefully roll up the flatbread to enclose all the fillings. Use baking paper if needed to hold the wrap together. Serve immediately for a delightful and authentic Greek Chicken Gyros experience.

Notes

  • For extra smoky flavor, consider charring the chicken skewers briefly under a grill before air frying.
  • The potatoes can be substituted with sweet potato wedges for a healthier twist.
  • Make sure to squeeze the grated cucumber thoroughly to avoid a watery tzatziki sauce.
  • Use garlic and herb flatbread if possible to complement the gyro flavors, but plain flatbread works well too.
  • If you don’t have a Ninja Foodi Air Fryer, a regular air fryer or oven set to high heat can be used for cooking the chicken and potatoes separately.
