Fruit and Dough
- 29 ounce can of peach slices or halves, cut in half
- 8 ounce refrigerated Pillsbury crescent roll dough
Butter Sugar Mixture
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Soda
- 3/4 cup citrus Fresca soda (or 7-Up, Sprite, Mountain Dew, or any lemon-lime soda)
Optional
- Vanilla ice cream for serving
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly spray an 8-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Crescent Dough: Separate the crescent roll dough into 8 individual triangles. Gently pat each triangle out a bit larger to better wrap the peach pieces.
- Assemble Dumplings: Place a peach wedge near the wide end of each dough triangle, then carefully roll the dough around the peach, sealing as you go. Place each rolled dumpling seam-side down in the prepared baking dish.
- Make Butter Sugar Topping: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the unsalted butter. Stir into the melted butter the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Apply Topping and Add Soda: Pour the butter and sugar mixture evenly over the tops of all the dumplings. Then slowly pour the citrus soda around the edges of the dumplings in the baking dish, making sure not to pour the soda over the dumplings to keep the topping intact for a golden crust.
- Bake: Bake the dumplings in the preheated oven for about 35 minutes or until they turn golden brown and the peaches are tender when pierced with a fork.
- Rest and Serve: Remove the baking dish from the oven and allow the dumplings to stand for 10 minutes. This resting time helps thicken the sauce. Serve warm, optionally topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent treat.
Notes
- Use any lemon-lime soda such as 7-Up, Sprite, Mountain Dew, or Fresca for the citrus soda component.
- Be careful to pour the soda around the dumplings and not over them to ensure the topping stays on and forms a nice crust.
- Letting the dumplings rest after baking helps the sauce thicken to a desirable consistency.
- Serving warm with vanilla ice cream enhances the dessert experience but is completely optional.
- You can substitute fresh peaches if in season, peeled and sliced, but canned peaches work best for consistent results.
