This Easy Maple Pumpkin Butter is a rich and flavorful spread made with pumpkin puree, real maple syrup, and warm spices. Perfect for fall, it’s a natural, wholesome alternative to processed sweet spreads and is delicious on toast, pancakes, or stirred into oatmeal.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 4 cups of pumpkin puree (canned or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup of real maple syrup
  • 3 teaspoons of fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon of pumpkin pie spice (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Add all the ingredients to a medium saucepan without the lid. Stir thoroughly to mix everything well.
  2. Heat and Bubble: Turn the heat to medium-high. When the mixture starts to bubble with holes and air pockets escaping, reduce heat to medium-low and place the lid on the saucepan at an angle to allow steam to escape.
  3. Simmer and Thicken: Adjust the heat to keep gentle bubbling. Cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring once or twice, until the pumpkin butter thickens to your preferred consistency. This time may vary slightly if using fresh pumpkin puree or if additional liquids are added.
  4. Cool and Store: Remove from heat and let it cool completely. Transfer to a container with a tight-fitting lid and refrigerate. The pumpkin butter keeps fresh for at least one week and up to two weeks in the fridge, or freeze for up to 3 months.

Notes

  • Use fresh pumpkin puree for a more vibrant flavor, but canned pumpkin works well too.
  • Keep the lid cracked during cooking to allow moisture to evaporate, thickening the butter.
  • Adjust sweetness by using less or more maple syrup to suit your taste.
  • This spread is excellent on toast, biscuits, pancakes, or stirred into yogurt or oatmeal.
  • Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to two weeks or freeze for longer storage.
