Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 1½ cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon yeast
  • 3½ cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon salt

Garlic Butter Topping

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon parsley, minced
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

Finishing

  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: Mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast together in a bowl. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes until it becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
  2. Prepare Dough: Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix thoroughly until a smooth dough forms. For ease, use a stand mixer with a dough hook if available. Allow the dough to rise in the bowl for 10 minutes.
  3. Shape Dough: On a floured surface, roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a pizza cutter or knife to cut the dough into strips approximately 8 to 10 inches long.
  4. Form Knots: Roll each strip between your hands to form ropes and tie each into a knot.
  5. Proof Knots: Place the garlic knots on a greased baking sheet and let them rise for another 10 minutes to become puffy.
  6. Bake: Bake the knots in a preheated oven at 400°F (204°C) for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
  7. Prepare Garlic Butter: While baking, melt the butter and mix in garlic powder, minced parsley, and olive oil to create the flavorful garlic butter sauce.
  8. Finish and Serve: As soon as the garlic knots come out of the oven, generously brush the tops with the garlic butter mixture. Sprinkle with grated parmesan cheese and serve warm for best flavor.

Notes

  • Make sure the water is warm, not hot, to properly activate the yeast without killing it.
  • Allowing the dough to rise twice helps achieve soft, fluffy knots.
  • You can substitute fresh minced garlic for garlic powder if preferred, adjusting quantity to taste.
  • For a crispier exterior, bake a few extra minutes but monitor closely to avoid burning.
  • These garlic knots can be stored in an airtight container and reheated for several days.
