Ingredients

Scale

Crumble Topping

  • 2½ tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Pull Apart Dough Balls

  • 1 pound fresh pizza dough, cut into 1-inch pieces and rolled into balls
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 2 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons heavy whipping cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 400°F. Line an 8×8-inch metal baking pan with parchment paper, leaving enough overhang to lift the bread out easily.
  2. Make crumble topping: In a small bowl, mix the flour, granulated sugar, light brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter until the mixture forms a crumble. Set aside.
  3. Prepare dough balls: Cut the fresh pizza dough into roughly 25 small pieces and roll each piece into a ball.
  4. Prepare cinnamon sugar and butter bowls: In one small bowl, combine the cinnamon and sugar. In another bowl, place the melted butter.
  5. Coat dough balls in butter: Drop 3-4 dough balls into the melted butter bowl and roll them around to coat evenly.
  6. Coat dough balls in cinnamon sugar: Transfer the butter-coated dough balls to the cinnamon sugar bowl and roll to coat thoroughly. Place them in a single layer in the prepared baking pan.
  7. Repeat coating: Continue the butter and cinnamon sugar coating process until all dough balls are coated and arranged in the pan.
  8. Add crumble topping: Evenly sprinkle the reserved crumble topping over the arranged dough balls.
  9. Bake bread: Bake for 23-26 minutes or until golden and bubbly. Let cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then lift out using the parchment paper and transfer to a serving plate.
  10. Make cream cheese frosting: While bread bakes and cools, beat softened butter and cream cheese in a bowl until smooth and fluffy.
  11. Add vanilla and sugar: Mix in vanilla extract and powdered sugar, beating until fully combined and smooth. Add heavy cream and beat 1-2 more minutes until frosting is smooth and pipeable.
  12. Decorate bread: Pipe a criss-cross pattern of the cream cheese frosting over the top of the warm pull-apart bread before serving.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh pizza dough that is soft and pliable.
  • If you don’t have fresh pizza dough, store-bought refrigerated dough can be a good substitute.
  • The cream cheese frosting should be pipeable but not too thick; adjust heavy cream accordingly.
  • Allow the bread to cool slightly before frosting to prevent melting the frosting.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to 4 days.
