Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 24 ounces cream cheese (room temperature)
  • ¾ cup finely chopped bacon (about 8 slices, cooked)
  • ½ cup finely chopped deli meat (4 ounces – ham, turkey, pastrami, roast beef, etc.)
  • 8 green onions (thinly sliced)
  • ¾ cup shredded cheddar cheese (cheddar cheese blend preferred)
  • ½ cup finely diced nuts (walnuts, pecans, almonds, etc.)
  • 1 teaspoon dill weed
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Decorations

  • Almonds (whole or sliced) for garland
  • Rosemary (several packages of stems)
  • Pomegranate arils or cranberries for ornaments
  • Cheddar cheese slice (about 2×2 inches, for the star) or yellow bell pepper
  • Assorted crackers
  • Fresh veggies (bell peppers, cucumbers, carrots, celery, etc.)
  • Bread

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Place cream cheese, cooked bacon, deli meat, sliced green onions, shredded cheddar cheese, diced nuts, dill weed, and garlic powder in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Mix and Knead: Mix all ingredients thoroughly, then knead the cream cheese into the mixture until very well combined. Shape into a ball and place it on a serving dish.
  3. Shape the Tree: Shape the cheese ball into a cone form resembling a Christmas tree.
  4. Add Almond Garland: Decorate first by placing almonds diagonally from top to bottom on the cheeseball to mimic garland. Use as many as you prefer.
  5. Create Rosemary Branches: Cut rosemary stems in half and insert them into the cheeseball pointing downward to imitate tree branches, covering the surface as densely as possible.
  6. Add Ornaments: Fill bare spots on the tree with pomegranate arils or cranberries to resemble ornaments.
  7. Top with Star: Cut a slice of cheddar cheese into a star shape and attach it to the top of the tree with a toothpick.
  8. Serve: Surround the cheese tree with an assortment of crackers, bread, and fresh vegetables. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Ensure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature for easier mixing and shaping.
  • You can substitute deli meats according to your preference or dietary restrictions.
  • For a vegetarian version, substitute bacon and deli meat with plant-based alternatives or more nuts and vegetables.
  • Use fresh rosemary for best visual effect and aroma.
  • Make the cheese star or bell pepper star ahead of time and keep refrigerated until assembling.
  • This appetizer is best served within a few hours but can be refrigerated overnight. Cover well to avoid drying out.
