Chocolate Covered Pretzels
- 5 cups pretzel minis
- 12 oz milk, semisweet, or dark chocolate bars, finely chopped (divided)
- Optional: white chocolate for drizzling
- Optional toppings: sprinkles, toffee bits, or crushed nuts
- Prepare the double boiler: Fill a small saucepan with 1-2 inches of water and place a medium-sized heatproof bowl over it, ensuring the bowl does not touch the water. Alternatively, use a double boiler setup.
- Add chocolate to bowl: Remove the bowl and add the finely chopped chocolate, reserving about 2 tablespoons to add back later.
- Heat water to simmer: Bring the water in the saucepan to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
- Melt the chocolate: Once simmering, place the bowl with chocolate over the saucepan. Stir continuously until the chocolate melts completely and is smooth. Remove the bowl from heat.
- Add reserved chocolate: Stir in the reserved 2 tablespoons of chocolate to the melted chocolate to ensure smoothness and prevent streaking.
- Dip pretzels: Dip the pretzel minis into the melted chocolate, completely covering them. Transfer each dipped pretzel onto a cooling rack or a baking sheet lined with wax paper, spacing them so they do not touch each other.
- Add optional toppings: While the chocolate is still wet, drizzle with melted white chocolate and/or sprinkle with sprinkles, toffee bits, or crushed nuts, if desired.
- Allow chocolate to harden: Let the chocolate-coated pretzels set at room temperature until firm. To speed up the process, place them in the refrigerator until the chocolate is fully hardened.
Notes
- Use good-quality chocolate for the best taste and smooth melting.
- Finely chopping the chocolate ensures even melting and smooth chocolate coating.
- Make sure the bowl does not touch the simmering water to avoid overheating the chocolate which can cause it to seize.
- Store the finished pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature or refrigerated for longer shelf life.
- Feel free to experiment with different types of chocolate and toppings to customize flavors.
