A quick and indulgent take on classic cheeseburgers using crispy garlic Texas toast as the base. This recipe layers seasoned ground beef, melted cheddar cheese, and a zesty Big Mac sauce, delivering all the flavors of a cheeseburger in an easy open-faced sandwich perfect for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Meat Mixture

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped yellow onions
  • 1 tablespoon hamburger seasoning (blend of salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika)

For the Toast and Topping

  • 1 box frozen garlic Texas Toast (8 slices)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ¼½ cup Big Mac sauce (special sauce made from mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickles, and spices)
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 425°F (220°C) to get it ready for toasting the bread and melting the cheese.
  2. Cook the Beef Mixture: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef, chopped onions, and hamburger seasoning. Cook, breaking the beef apart, until it is fully browned with no pink remaining and the juices run clear.
  3. Drain Excess Grease: Carefully pour off or blot out any grease from the pan to avoid soggy toast later.
  4. Toast the Texas Toast: Arrange the Texas toast slices on a baking sheet and bake in the oven’s middle rack for 5 minutes. Flip the slices and bake another 5 minutes until the edges are crispy but the center remains sturdy enough for toppings.
  5. Prepare the Toast for Toppings: Remove toast from oven and gently press the center of each slice down with the back of a spoon to create a slight well for the toppings.
  6. Assemble the Sandwiches: Spoon the cooked beef mixture evenly onto each toast slice, then sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the beef.
  7. Melt the Cheese: Return the assembled toasts to the oven and bake for an additional 3-4 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and melted.
  8. Add Finishing Touches: Remove from oven and drizzle each toast slice with Big Mac sauce to taste. Optional: Sprinkle dried parsley on top for a fresh, colorful garnish.

Notes

  • The hamburger seasoning can be made by combining salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika to taste.
  • Big Mac sauce is a tangy, creamy sauce typically made from mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, minced pickles, garlic powder, and onion powder—homemade or store-bought versions work well.
  • For a less greasy dish, drain the ground beef well after cooking.
  • You can substitute cheddar cheese with American cheese or your favorite melting cheese for different flavor profiles.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture, while the toast remains crispy and the cheese warm.
